The Haida Collection
Acrylic on Haida Gwaii Cedar is a project I undertook while visiting Haida Gwaii studying art and teaching art at a children's summer art+yoga camp.
Panel sizes vary: they are approximately 6" X 14" and are remnants of ancient Haida cedar, up to 8,000 years old. The medium is a blend of ink/stain, acrylic paint, acrylic medium and varnish.
The images are expressions of "spiritual encounters" influenced by dramatic kinetic forces of nature floating in the air and contained within the cedar fibers. This work was made possible only by living within this remarkable Haida land, home to the Haida peoples for many thousands of years.
